The start of a new year & the start of the first chapter in this devotional book:

1. Be thankful for all that happens. I have this mindset because I realized that one may be taking things for granted; only when lost do we understand the privilege of having it all.

  • They are also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening.
    1 Chronicles 23:30

2. Have peace in everything because God provides. Pray to Him for what you need, and do not let the troubles or toils of this world distract you. Let the peace of God guard your hearts.

  • Peace I leave with you; my [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
    John 14:27

3. Shine your light so that others can see your grateful heart towards God. Following the Spirit makes us feel alive.

  • You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
    Matthew 5:14

4. Place your hope in God because He will make all things good. Trust in Him and believe the best will come.

  • May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing with hope.
    Romans 15:13

5. Be positive and spread that positivity around. Don’t be a prisoner to negative thinking.

  • A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
    Proverbs 17:22

6. Look towards the reapings of your journey. It is what can energize you to keep pressing on. Jesus despised the cross, but the ultimate reward of sitting beside our Lord in heaven spurred Him on.

  • Men will say. Surely there is a reward for the [uncompromisingly] righteous; surely there is a God Who judges on the earth. Psalm 58:11

7. Renew your hearts with God’s promises, His Word, and thinking of God-honoring thoughts as you change your life for the better.

  • For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
    Proverbs 23:7

8. Never give up. God gives you the strength to keep going and though the going may get tough, He will be with you until the end. Thank-you God for giving me the strength to never quit!

  • Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
    Galatians 6:9

9. It is important to be self-disciplined. Knowing when to stop and when to take a step back and settle. God’s Word teaches us to be temperate and eventually, we will not regret our circumstances.

  • Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.
    Proverbs 25:28

10. Pursue peace. To do so, you need to pursue peace within, around you, and from God. God can do any and everything. Through Him, we will have peace.

  • I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence
    John 16:33

11. Being grateful for the many things in life – we come to realize the many small blessings our God has provided us with. Although we do not deserve God’s goodness, the gratefulness we feel when we do receive it is overwhelming joyful.

  • At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
    Ephesians 5:20

12. Take a moment to pray, always, out of your busy day. By talking to our Father continously throughout the day, we are inviting Him into every area of our lives – God wants to be part of our lives, always.

  • And they raised up their voices and called, Jesus, Master, take pity and have mercy on us!
    Luke 17:13

13. Let your decisions be dependent on your emotions at hand. God will always give us the strength to make the right choices regardless of how we feel.

  • When I am weak [in human strength], then am I [truly] strong (able, powerful in divine strength).
    2 Corinthians 12:10

14. Enjoy the wait. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. Feel blessed that you have this opportunity to learn the art of waiting.

  • But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfectly and full developed, lacking in nothing.
    James 1:4

15 Be different and be kind to those whom do not deserve your kindness. Be special and give love towards those that may not know Jesus and understand love.

  • If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
    Romans 12:18

16 Although it may be hard to always see the good in others, our Lord, He helps us do so. Let Him lead you to believe the best of every person.

  • Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything.
    1 Corinthians 13:7

17 This devotion spoke to me tremendously. It is often easier said than done, to leave everything in God’s hands. But let us do so! Let us begin believing and saying, “I trust God completely; these is no need to worry! I will not give in to fear or anxiety. God is the source of my confidence.”

  • For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my trust from my youth and the source of my confidence
    Psalm 71:5

18 Part of God’s will is for us to enjoy every moment in life. Enjoy the good of your labor. In learning to value enjoyment, you are engaging in what is vital to being a balanced and healthy person.

  • The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
    John 10:10

19 The Word is a wonderful gift from God. It promises and instructs us on how to live the best life possible, in the most godliest way possible.

  • I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes forever, even to the end.
    Psalm 119:112

20 I hope to remember that when I go to the Lord in prayer, I do so with a thankful mindset. If it was important for Jesus to live a life of thanksgiving, it should certainly be important for us to do so too.

  • At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
    Ephesians 5:20

21 Stray from focusing on your problems. By doing so, your problems become magnified. Instead of meditating on our problems, by meditating on God’s Word and His promises, we will see the faithfulness of God revealed, and our problems won’t seem so big after all!

  • Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
    Hebrews 12:2

22 Although it may seem that love can be found in many things on this earth, in actuality, love can only be found in our Lord. By looking for God, we find love along the way.

  • I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.
    John 13:24

23 Everyone needs a blessing. We are all blessed by God; let us take his blessings and multiply them to bring happiness and peace to others when we can. One may truly find “joy unspeakable” in the process.

  • Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.
    Philippians 2:4

24 Let us seek God first. Not after consulting others and their opinions. But let Him heal us when we need help.

  • For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.
    Matthew 7:8

25 Speak out against feelings of insecurity! Take that step of faith and believe God loves you wonderfully! Fight the good fight of faith, and refuse to live below the level God has destined you to live at.

  • Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold of the eternal life to which you were summoned and [for which[ you confessed the good confession [of faith] before many witnesses.
    1 Timothy 6:12

26 At times it may seem as  if life has a million decisions to be made. But know, if you put your utmost trust in God and let Him lead your actions, all will be better than you have ever imagined. Be brave.

  • He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus.
    Matthew 14:29

27 Although the things God does for us in life may seem trivial at times, know that He has great plans in our future. Continue to be amazed by the “little” miracles he performs in life and be thankful for His earthly works.

  • And they were amazed at His teaching, for His word was with authority and ability and weight and power.
    Luke 4:32

28 During the many storms and trials in life, let us run to Him. When one practices spiritual disciplines, it brings about protection and enables one to remain strong in any storm.

  • He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]/
    Psalm 91:1

29 There are many worries in one’s life. But give them over to God. Let Him take the reigns of what you cannot do. Don’t waste another of your day worrying about unnecessary things; it is not worth it.

  • Give to the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness or in holy array.
    Psalm 29:2

30 To not let the moods and emotions of others influence how you feel is a tough task. But that is exactly what Jesus did. He changed others, but he did not let them change Him. Do what God expects you to do and don’t live under the tyranny of other’s moods and attitudes.

  • [After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
    Romans 14:17

31 By always being thankful and gracious towards all that we have, we are closing the door to grumbling and complaining. Let us regularly praise, worship, and thank God, and there will remain no room for complaining, faultfinding, and murmuring. Let us open the doors of thankfulness for God to bless us.

  • Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, al you His hosts, you His ministers who do His pleasure.
    Psalm 103:21

I hope these devotions of January managed to help you, if even just a little, to put down your worries and problems; to lay them before God and let Him take the reigns. Thankfulness goes a long way I believe, in building up one’s faith and love for God and His works in our love.
